Monday 23rd September – Football Yr 7/8 vs Kings – 4-3
Our players were very excited and this showed in their performance. They were fast to press the opposition and managed to grab a goal midway through the half. Kings kept showing signs of what they were capable our but our defence kept them at bay. In the second half, gaps began to appear in both teams allowing a stream of goals. Zac bagged 2, James 1 and the same for Carter. All our players fought to keep the score at 4-3 and earnt a well-deserved win.
Tuesday 24th Septmber – Football Yr 7/8 vs King Alfreds – 3-5
With a slightly different line up to Monday and our opposition arriving late, the usual pre match routine was a little disrupted. A thunderbolt from King Alfreds woke up the side with a shock but we quickly rallied and scored an equaliser. We had the better of the play, but the size of the pitch, left some large gaps for their team to drive through. They led 3-1 at half time, but the team listened well and responded in the second half. A great free kick from James and a good finish from Zac, reduced the deficit. Stronger tackling, a higher defensive line and determination saw us score in the last second of the game, but unfortunately, King Alfreds had pinched two scrappy goal mouth scrambles. Lots of positives from the match and some lessons learnt too.
Wednesday 25th September – Football Yr 5/6 A & B – A’s 2-5, B’s 1-0
A Team
After lots of singing of the ‘A Team’ theme, a quick warm up and some discussions of the basics, the A’s made a good start. Duncombe drew first blood which was quickly healed by a Jonah equaliser. As the match progressed, our marking became a little loose and Duncombe had quite a lot of luck to score two of their goals. A few good strikes from Sherrardswood just missed or were saved. Jonah finished well again in the second half to double our tally. All the players agreed that we will work on marking and wide play in the next few weeks.
B Team
The B team made a dream start to their match with an Ollie goal. Duncombe had very little room to manoeuvre as the Sherrardswood players were so close to them whenever they received the ball. Olive made some excellent saves in the first half, but due to excellent play, wasn’t really troubled in the second. Well done to all of the boys who looked as though they thoroughly enjoyed themselves
